Demands Made By Students

(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright)

MEXICO CITY, October 4. A breakdown of the demands over which Mexican students have been demonstrating in the last few weeks, as announced in a six-point petition to the President late last month, are:

Disbandment of the hated riot police. Dismissal of the chief and deputy chief of the Mexico City Police, who have over-all charge of the riot police. The release of political prisoners and gaoled students. Indemnity to the families of students killed or injured in the riots. Repeal of a penal-code clause outlawing public assembly when it is considered to be subversion. Non-recognition by the authorities of the National Federation of Technical Students, which the rank-and-file say has become a tool of the Government. The students leaders also are demanding a voice in the Government for themselves, and a bigger one for the common Mexican workers. President Diaz Ordaz has

offered to listen to some of the students’ demands, but the students are insisting on a public debate.
