$2600 Portrait A record price of $2600 for a New Zealand painting was paid for a work by Gottfried Lindauer at an auction in Auckland yesterday. The painting is a portrait, 30in by 22in, of Chief Mateue Te Manuku, and is signed and dated 1907. The buyer was a farmer who would not divulge his name. The previous record price was $2400, paid for a Goldie earlier this year.—P.A. World Communion World Communion Day, which is observed annually by many churches of different denominations throughout the world, will be celebrated in Christchurch on Sunday. The Anglican, Presbyterian and Methodist parishes of Cashmere Hills will combine for a special service of Holy Communion in the Cashmere Hills Presbyterian Church at 7 p.m. on Sunday. The service will be conducted by the minister of St Augustine’s Anglican Church (the Rev. Canon R. P. Andrews) and the prayers of intercession will be read by the Anglican curate (the Rev. D. T. Manning). The sermon will be preached by the Presbyterian minister (the Rev. N. E. Campbell) and the communion will be administered by the Methodist minister (the Rev. G. L. Sweet). Waimairi Building Between April 1 and September 30, building permits worth $3,779,795 were issued by the Waimairi County Council, compared with $3,124,153 for the same period last year. Last month, 63 permits, worth $1,108,697 were granted. They included one for $350,000 for a freezing company cool store at Belfast. In September, 1967, 148 permits valued at $593,537 were issued. Hotel Hours Tattersails Hotel has applied to the Canterbury Licensing Committee to vary its opening hours to 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Mondays to Saturdays. The hotel now has the normal 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. hours.
