Domestic Proceedings Bill

Sir, —I am glad to see the Domestic Proceedings Bill is no longer entitled “Rights for Women,” as it has become obvious that any so-called rights are very double-edged, controversial considerations. Of course, it is of interest to note that an entirely new type of law is now being produced whose sole purpose is the protection of the guilty rather than the innocent party, i.e., the amendment to the Property Act in which wrongful conduct is no longer to be taken into consideration. Also, we hear that Mr Campbell is anxious to legalise de facto wives and apparently is quite happy that first wives and their families should be thrown on the mercy of social security. In fact, if you are a decadent, immoral woman, home-wreck-er or deserter, you can look forward to a much improved status.—Yours, etc., IRATE TAXPAYER. October 3, 1968.
