GISBORNE RAIL-CAR
Last Run On Monday (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Oct. 2. The rail-car service be-' tween Napier and Gisborne will end on Monday. It is being closed because of lack of patronage and an annual operating loss of $45,000. Announcing this today, the Minister of Railways (Mr Gordon) said that after representations had been made by Mrs E. I. Tombleson, M.P. for Gisborne, he had agreed to reconsider his decision to curtail the service If passenger patronage could be increased during its last three weeks.
However, the number of passengers carried showed no sign of Increasing during the trial period.
