Sholokov Writes To Invaders

(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) MOSCOW, Sept 15. Mikhail Sholokov, the Nobel Prize-win-ning Soviet writer, today called on Russian troops in occupied Czechoslovakia to behave like diplomats, United Press International reports.

“Your motherland requires you to display all those great common to true solgood diplomats—-sober-minde tt „ and calmness,” tK<novelist said in

Soviet troops in Czechoslovakia. “Our Soviet commanders were not only military leaders but, when a situation required, they were also pretty good diplomats, and now it is necessary that not only commanders but also soldiers be diplomats.” Sholokov’s letter was published in the Army newspaper, “Red Star.” The author of “And Quiet Flows the Don,” who is one of Soviet literature’s most outspoken conservatives, told

the Soviet occupation forces he wished them “from the bottom of my heart success in carrying out the task entrusted to you.” Sholokhov was awarded the 1965 Nobel Prize for Literature for his epic writings about Don Cossacks published in the late 19205. He has been a member of the Supreme Soviet (Parliament) since 1946.
