TROTTING J. A. Carmichael Could Win Hutt Park Double

The Templeton trainer, J. A. Carmichael, could drive the winners of both legs of the T.A.B. double at Hutt Park Raceway this evening.

He will drive Beat Time in the first leg, the President’s Handicap, and will be represented by one of his own team. Bonny Strathaif, in the second leg, the Wanganui Handicap.

Beat Time was far from disgraced when he finished fast for second to Richard Hanover on Saturday night. He drew badly and did not receive a particularly good run.

It was late when he challenged and he made up a lot of ground in a fast-run race. He will be on the limit from a standing start this evening and he should be able to secure a more favourable run.

Light Silk made a surprisingly forward showing when he finished fourth after making the pace on Saturday evening. That was his first race for about 18 months. He should be an improved horse after that run and if allowed to adopt the same front-running tactics he should be one of the hardest for Beat Time to master. Landlord should again be the pick of the trio representing the Woolston trainer, A. J. Bourne. He finished third on Saturday night and should again be prominent. Tryout finished sixth on Saturday, three places in front of Major Bright. Landlord should once more be too good for them. Hard Task Richard Hanover will be set a stiff assignment from 24 yards, but he is very well and could show up, especially if the pace is slack early. A win for any of the others would be a major upset and Coastaway could be the pick of them. Bonny Strathair was checked at least twice on Sat-

urday when he finished fifth in the Country Handicap, won by Bold Axworth, With average luck he should go close to making amends in the Wanganui Handicap. Bonny Strathair has trotted some of his best races at Hutt Park and he looks ready to win at short notice.

Seven Nights showed marked improvement when he ran Bold Axworth to half a length on Saturday. If he races as generously, he should again take beating.

Doctor Scott trotted a useful race for fourth on Saturday and he could take a prominent part in the finish. Bold Axworth and Stella Globe are racing most generously at present and along with Big Charge they appeal most of the others. The on-course double will be run on the Pressmen’s Handicap and the Stewards’ Handicap, Someday and Vandal forming the likely favourite combination. Fair weather is forecast and the track will again be fast.
