JUDGES’ NAMES

The names of 14 New Zealand Supreme Court judges will be given to new streets in the Free block transferred from the Halswell county to the city recently.

The street names subcommittee reported to the City Council last evening that the Halswell county was named after a prominent English Queen’s Coun-

sei, and it would be appropriate to record the names of judges, many of whom had been Q.C.s or K.C.S before appointment to the Bench.

The names of the roads will be Northcroft, Barrowclough, Herdman, Salmond, McCarthy and O’Leary Streets, Leicester, Stanton and Haslam Crescents, Myers, Dalglish, Fair, Ostler and Callan Places.
