Trust Poll Wanted

Decision was reserved by the Licensing Control Commission yesterday on an application by the Waipara County Council for a poll as to whether the proposed Hawarden tavern should be run by a trust or a private person.

Cr F. G. Forrester, the council's deputy-chairman, said it was proposed to have the poll in the area served by the Hawarden telephone exchange. This had 235 households.

The council had sponsored the move to get a tavern, and from public response to inquiries, was prepared to go on and form a trust. Land for the tavern was available, but the council would not consider finance until after the poll.
