TOWN HALL PLAN

Suggestion On Sculpture

Placing pieces of sculpture by Henry Moore outside Christchurch’s new town hall was suggested by Mr G. 0. Burrowes at a meeting of the board of the Civic Trust last night. The reaction of members was mixed.

“I see the beginnings of a first-class Christchurch controversy,” said Mr W. S MacGibbon. The chairman (Mr J. Oakley): “I would be happy to see some Henry Moore, provided there was not too many kinds in it. It would be rather grand and some is rather superb." Mr A. C. Brassington: “We could if we had the money." He added that the Godley statue had been subject to “fortuitous peripatetic peregrinations,” and if sculpture were installed, it would be interesting to see what future generations would do with it.
