OBITUARY
Mr H. Kibblewhite Mr Harold Kibblewhite, formerly a well-known Christchurch headmaster and Hornby resident, died recently. Born in Taranaki in 1903, he spent much of his teaching career in Taranaki schools. In 1950 he became headmaster of Hornby School and saw it grow from 300 to nearly 800 pupils. During his term at Hornby, he also served for nearly a year as an inspector of schools in the Canterbury area. He retired from the Homby School in December, 1962. Mr Kibblewhite took an interest in local affairs and was one of the founders and an early president of the Hornby Residents’ Association. He was a foundation member of the Hornby Masonic Lodge and served as envelope secretary to the St John Methodist Church, Addington, since his retirement in 1963.
Earlier, he was a wellknown cricketer in Taranaki. He was a keen bowler, and a member of the Hornby Bowling Club since coming to the district He served as club president and represented the Christchur-h centre in inter-provincial matches. He was made a club life member in 1965.
He is survived by his wife, three sons and a daughter.
