One Person Dead

(N.Z Press Assn.—Copyright) SAN ANTONIO, Sept 16. One person died and 50 fair-goers were injured yesterday when a fair minimonorail train struck another from behind, derailing 11 cars, the Associated Press reported. An elderly woman died in hospital after she and 32 others were rushed there by ambulance from the San Antonio Hemisfair grounds, a spokesman said. Police reports listed 50 persons known injured in the afternoon accident as the two mini-monorail cars were rounding a curve between a lagoon cruise station and the Hemisfair infirmary. An estimated 20 persons were believed seriously injured and three were reported in critical condition, the Texas Department of Public Safety said. United Press International reported witnesses said the accident happened when one train slowed for a curve and another rammed into the back of it.

Spate of Car Thefts. — Ninety-one cars worth more than $lOO,OOO were stolen in the Sydney metropolitan area during the week-end. A 15ft boat trailer, a motor-cycle, and a set of car number plates were also taken. Police say they have already recovered 45 of the missing vehicles.—Sydney, September 16.
