(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, September 13. General damages of $16,000 to a man and $13,000 to his wife were assessed by a jury in the Supreme Court at Auckland today. The plaintiffs are John Alfred Smith, aged 68, a foreman, and Mrs Isobel Lily Smith, aged 64. Tutunui Matthew Love, a worker, was the defendant.
The claim was in respect of injuries Mr and Mrs Smith suffered in a head-on collision on the main highway at Te Kauwhata on September 19, 1965.
Liability was admitted by the defendant and the jury was called on only to decide the amount of general damages.
Mr Smith claimed $30,000 general damages and Mrs Smith claimed $25,000. Special damages already agreed were $11,231, for Mr Smith and $7223 for Mrs Smith.
