Firemen’s Hours

Sir,—My husband Is one of the privileged few who work 84 hours a week in this industrial utopia known as the Fire Brigade. Mr Campbell has not aeted as Father Christmas to my three children for the last six years while their father was on duty for 24 hours. At times I feel, and my children feel, that we are only a family on a part-time basis, and Dad is the man who through the grace of the Fire Board, is permitted to visit his family every other day. It is obvious that Mr Campbell does not understand the added strain and responsibilities of bringing up a young family and running the home with the husband working extended hours. If he did he would not make such statements.—Yours, etc., FIREMAN’S WIFE. September 12, 1968.
