VOCATIONAL CLASS

Burnside H.S.

The establishment of a vocational class at Burnside High School next year was recommended to the school board of governors this week, and accepted. ( Making the recommendation, the headmaster (Mr C. Cross) said that officers of the Education Department had asked him to bring the question before the board. A class of 15 to 20 children, almost all from outside the school, and with need for specialised training, was envisaged. These pupils would be able to spend some of their time in a business or trade environment so that they eould more readily find a suitable post when they left school. The class would be for those up to the fourth form. The class would have a room of its own and a specialist teacher, said Mr Cross. Vocational class pilot schemes —there had been one at Aranui High School—had been very successful.
