Bus Inquiry Office
Sir,—To get any information at the bus inquiry office in the Square one has to put an ear close to the small hole in the window. In the noise of traffic it is difficult to hear what the person inside has to say. Could a window not be placed inside the shelter shed, thus also avoiding standing out in rain and cold weather? We would be able to see whom we are dealing with. After all, we are the clients of the Transport Board and deserve better treatment.—Yours, etc., A DAILY USER. July 25, 1968. [The general manager of the Christchurch Transport Board (Mr J. F. Fardell) replies: “The writer’s suggestion is appreciated, but to make a full open window inside the shelter would mean the alteration of the main
electrical control and meter board, plus the hand basin and its plumbing. The cost of the repositioning and rewiring of the electrical circuit and the plumbing would not be warranted in view of the fact that a proper inquiries office has been incorporated in the new Square lay-out, which will provide an enclosed inquiry and ticket sales office. However, an endeavour will be made to see if a small window can be provided on the western side of the office for timetable inquiries.”]
