ONEHUNGA’S CREW

Use Of Fijians Defended (N Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, September 11. A Fijian vessel with a Fijian crew had as much right to trade to New Zealand as a New Zealand vessel and crew had to trade to Fiji, the owners of the blacklisted island trader Onehunga said today. The company, the Reef Shipping Company, of Suva, said that this opinion was supported by the Fiji Seamen’s Union. The Onehunga is in Tauranga. It was declared black by the Bay of Plenty Trades Council as a result of a request from the Seamen’s Union, which says that the company is using cheap labour to trade to New Zealand while many New Zealand seamen are unemployed.
