Increased Prices

Sir, —I would like to congratulate R. Davis on his letter on how to beat increased prices of vegetables. I am aware it has been a bad season for the market gardener, but the sore point is this. On my way to work the other

morning I went into a wellknown seed store and bought a dozen spring cabbage plants and was charged 25c. A few days later I went into a big department store and bought for 12c a dozen better plants. Boycott them. That is the only way.—Yours, etc., L. HILL. September 10, 1965.

Sir, —Possibly some current price increases are justified It seems, though, that some manufacturers may be taking advantage of the situation to increase their profit margins A local milk company has just increased the price of its yoghurt from 10c a carton to 13c. The reason given is that yoghurt is higher priced else where in New Zealand. If workers can be criticised for pressing wage demands, how much more can individual companies be criticised for unjustifiably producing the conditions that necessitate these demands?—Yours, etc., PROFIT RESTRAINT. September 10, 1968.
