Fish Hatchery

Sir, —1 read in your paper some weeks ago about the poisoning of trout by chemical pollution in the Wairarapa stream, and the comments and concern expressed by Mr N. Voyce, chairman of the fish committee of the North Canterbury Acclimatisation Society. I would like to ask Mr Voyce if-he thinks the same could occur in the long stretch of open water which is the supply to the Silverstream hatchery which the society is now developing.— Yours, etc., CURIOUS. September 5, 1968. [Mr N. 1. Voyce, chairman of the fish committee of the North Canterbury Acclimatisation Society, replies: “There are no swimming pools emptying into Silverstream, while the society controls a large portion of land upstream from the hatcheries. The remaining land bordering the stream up to its source is privately owned, and the society appreciates the good will and understanding of these pro-perty-owners.”]
