Softballers’ Narrow Win

(Special Crspdt. X.Z.P.A ) OAKLAND (California). The New Zealand touring softball team beat the leading Californian side, Stormettas, in an exciting game at Napa Valley on Saturday. J. Cheyne scored home runs in the eighth innings with the game tied at the end of the regulation seven innings. The New Zealand top pitcher, P. Herlihy, had 15 strike-outs and allowed only three hits, in his best tour performance. Stormettas gained its revenge in the returning match, winning 2-1 after nine innings. G. Tattersall pitched well for the tourists, and Strong and Phillips twice hit safely.
