DEFENCE VISITORS

Group Of 17 A week’s visit to New Zealand will begin in Christchurch tomorrow for 17 students and staff from the Imperial Defence College, London. The party is headed by Mr A. M. Mackintosh, a member of the directing staff at the college. It includes representatives of the United States Department of Defence, the Jamaican Defence Force, the Nigerian Navy, British and American armed services, the Royal Canadian Navy and the diplomatic service. At the airport the party will be met by Air Commodore A. S. Agar, officer commanding the Royal New Zealand Air Force Training Group, who will represent the Chiefs of Staff, and Mr R. F Tiddy, of the British High Commission in Christchurch. On Thursday the party will visit a farm and meet members of the North Canterbury branch of Federated Farmers; meet members of the Canterbury Manufacturers’ Association, and see a jet boat demonstration on the Waimakariri. At 4 p.m. that day they will leave for Wellington. The aim of the Imperia! Defence College is to produce throughout the Commonwealth a body of senior officers of the armed forces and civil services who can hold high commands and responsible appointments under their respective governments The college studies defence in its broadest aspects.
