Hororata Cup Stake Raised To $3OOO
Stakes have been Increased by $1230 to $BBOO for the Hororata Racing Club’s annual meeting to be held at Riccarton on December 14. This was decided at a meeting of the club’s committee last Monday evening. The Hororata Cup this year will be worth $3OOO, including a $75 trophy given by the Canterbury-Westland branch of the Owners, Trainers and Breeders’ Association. The stake for this event has been raised $BOO. With the exception of the Trial Plate, which will carry a stake of $6OO, there have been increases in all races on the programme. The open sprinters In the Gordons Gin Handicap will be
competing tor a $l4OO stake. Last year the total prizemoney for this race was $1250. The stakes for the Hororata High-weight, the H. A. Knight Memorial and Sandown Hack Handicaps have been raised $lOO to $750. Prize-money for the Haldon Handicap, for two-year-olds, has also been raised from $650 to $750. The L. Derrett Handicap, for staying hacks, will be worth $BOO. The stake for this race last year was $720.
Caulfield Cup Scratchings (N Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) MELBOURNE. The highly rated New Zealand gallopers, Bright Chief and Bed Crest, were among scratchings on Tuesday from the 140,000 Caulfield Cup di miles), to be run on October 19. Each is still in the $60,000 Melbourne Cup, in which Red Crest finished second behind Red Handed last year. Bright Chief and Red Crest have been top fancies for both cups since doubles bookmakers Issued their first charts.
