TREES SALVAGED
! A ginkgo tree and an oak, in the way of preparatory work for the construction of the new Kilmore Street bridge, were salvaged yesterday and replanted on the site of the proposed high-rise apartment block at the corner of Rhodes Street and Carlton Mill Road.
The job was done by Wil- \ liams Construction Canter- . bury, Ltd, contractors for ! both the bridge and the apart- > ments. ; “We’ve done the best we ■ can to see that the trees suri vive,” said the company's ! manager (Mr D. J. Campbell).
■ “As property developers as . well as contractors, we try . to conserve good trees wherever possible, and the ginkgo ' and oak will, we hope, continue to flourish on the fron- < tage of the apartment site.” The photograph shows the i oak tree being hoisted on to . a truck.
