Magisterial Change

(N Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Sept 4

The senior Stipendiary Magistrate in New Zealand since June, Mr M. C. Astley, who is 67, will retire on September 25, and will be succeeded in Auckland by Mr J. R. Drummond, S.M., aged 62. The Wellington Magistrate (Mr M. B. Scully, S.M.) will then become the country’s senior Stipendiary Magistrate. He is 6i.

Mr Astley, who was appointed in 1949, intends to keep abreast of legal wort during his retirement With Mr J. H. Luxford, S.M., who has returned temporarily from retirement, he will rewrite the textbook they wrote together 12 years ago. “Domestic Proceedings in New Zealand." which will soon be outdated.
