World titles in amateur snooker
AUSTRALIA will be host to the third world amateur snooker championships which begin this month. Ten men from seven countries, including New Zealand. will be attempting to win the title vacated by the Englishman, G. Owen, who turned professional after winning the title first in Calcutta in 1964, and retaining it in Karachi in 1966. The championships will be held in Melbourne and Ade-
laide from September 16 to 20. and the four finalists will play off in Sydney from September 30 to October 4. The New Zealand representatives are R. Flutey, a polio victim, who last year won the national snooker title and was runner-up in the North Island billiards championship; and L. Napper, who won the snooker championship in 1965 and 1966, and also the billiards title in 1965.
