STUDY OF SEX
Programme Advocated
The introduction of a comprehensive programme of sex education at the University of Canterbury is urged in a motion to be discussed at a special general meeting of the Students' Association on Monday evening. The incoming president of the association, Mr P. Grocott, has given notice of a motion to ask the meeting to endorse the necessity of such a programme.
He wants the Students' Representation Council to set up a commission to investigate the matter and table a report at next year’s annual meeting.
Another motion, of which notice has been given by Mr E. Wily, wants the Students' Association to urge the Minister of Education (Mr Kinsella), in co-operation with the Minister of Health (Mr McKay), to institute a formal programme of graded and continuing sex education in all public primary and secondary schools. At the same meeting, Mr L. Wright, who has resigned from the executive over the contraceptive - vending machines issue, will move that the decision approving in principle the installation of the machines be rescinded.
