SOOTHING SIGN

(N Z. Press Association)

WELLINGTON, Sept. 3. A device to prevent the irritation to bus drivers of people continually pulling the “buzzer,” has been developed by the Wellington City Corporation Transport Department

It is a 3ft by 12in sign on the bulkhead above the driver.

When the cord is pulled the sign lights up and the words “bus stopping” appear and show until the bus stops and the doors are opened and closed again. The general manager of the department (Mr R. H. Pritchard) said today the system was used overseas, though not widely.
