New tennis president
Mr J. S. Lugton, of Waikato, is the new president of the New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association. It is customary every fourth year for the presidency to go outside the three major associations of Auckland, Wellington and Canterbury, and Mr Lugton was the sole nominee. A farmer near Matamata, Mr Lugton has been a tennis
administrator since World War II as a member of the management committee (1947-60) and president (1952-56) of the Hinuera club, a member of the management committee (since 1949) and president (195457) of the Waikato East sub-association, and a member of the management committee and (since 1953)
president (1957-61) of the Waikato association. As Waikato president, Mr Lugton was a national vicepresident and since then he has been a Waikato delegate to the national council. He was the prime mover in the establishment of new Waikato tennis headquarters in Hamilton, which was named Lugton Park.
