WEST COAST REQUEST

Extension Of Power The extension of the national power supply to the Fox Glacier, Paringa and Haast areas of South Westland will be sought by a deputation which will ask the Minister of Electricity (Mr Shand) to arrange for a sur. vey of the region. This decision was reached at a meeting called by the Paringa Progress League, and attended by representatives from Fox Glacier and Haast. Two representatives from each district were appointed to the deputation, and it was decided to ask the Westland County Council to arrange a meeting with the Minister. Mr P. Blanchfield, member of Parliament for Westland, and Mr D. B. Dallas, the Government commissioner for the West Coast, will be invited to attend.

The meeting also agreed to seek the support of the Minister of Tourism (Mr Thomson), as it was felt that abundant power was necessary for the tourist development of the region.
