Unpainted For Stud?
(Special Crspdt. N.Z PA)
Unpainted has probably finished her racing career and will be returned to New Zealand next week to stand at stud, the Sydney trainer, T. J. Smith, said yesterday.
Smith said the mare had not recovered from soreness on both shoulders that had hindered her spring preparation.
"It is not serious." he said, "and with about six weeks' rest I she would be alright, but the i big races are almost upon us, and I know her owner wants I her to go to stud this year." Smith said the mare would probably fly home next week. Unpainted, which is by The Cobbler, achieved her greatest success in Australia when she won the $40,000 Doncaster Handicap over a mile at Randwick last autumn.
