LONDON, September 2.
The British Government tried to have the Bank Holiday week-end international athletics match between Britain and Poland postponed, the “Sunday Telegraph” said. A request to call off the match, which began at White City on Saturday, was made to the British Amateur Athletics Board by the Foreign Secretary (Mr Michael Stewart), the paper said. But the board said that by cancelling the match it would be liable to pay damages to the Poles.
