PILOTS’ PLEA ON PIRACY

(N.Z P. A.-Reuter —Copyright) LONDON, September 1. The International Federation of Airline Pilots’ Associations has urged the world’s governments to introduce as a matter of urgency, effective deterrents against air piracy. “Action to remove this hazard to crew members, passengers and air safety generally is long overdue,” it says in a statement welcoming the release by the Algerian Government of the El Al Boeing airliner hijacked and taken to Algiers on July 23, and of its 12 Israeli occupants. The federation suggests that more nations should ratify the Tokyo Convention on Air Offences at the assembly of the International Civil Aviation Organisation opening at Buenos Aires on Tuesday.
