Electricity-Charge Reduction Sought
(N Z. Press Association)
AUCKLAND, Aug. 30.
A reduction in the Government’s bulk charge for electricity will be sought at the annual conference in Auckland next month of the Electrical Supply Authorities’ Association.
Between 550 and 600 delegates, Government department representatives, and overseas visitors will attend the conference, one of the biggest held in New Zealand. One of the most important topics will be the recent slow-
down in the growth rate of consumption, which has led to the Government’s decision to defer certain generating-' station construction. Several supply authorities will ask the conference to agree to an approach to the Government for a review of present bulkeelctricity charges, in view of these deferments.
They say they feel the Government should pass on the consequent savings in capital costs to supply authorities and their consumers.
They also want the Government to review its present policy of requiring 50 per cent of capital from revenue. This was increased from 25 per cent last year, when the new bulk-tariff -agreement came into force, and led to an increase in retail tariffs.
