GREAT ADIOS IN PLEASING RUN
Great Adlos again attracted attention to his prospects in the National Handicap with a sound trial at Addington Raceway yesterday morning. Times were not fast as the horses worked about 25 feet out from the rails, and had to contend with a strong, cold easterly wind, which slowed them down.
Great Adios made the pace, and was held back to Trafalgar in the straight at the end of 12 furlongs in 3min 21sec, the last half mile in Imin ssec, and the final quarter in 32 2-ssee. Great Adlos has come on well since last Saturday, and he should not be long showing worth-while form.
Waitaki Elect was as impressive as any of the other horses to work. Conditions were at their worst when he went over 12 furlongs with Landlord in 3min 26 3-ssec, the last half mile in imin 5 2-ssec, and the final quarter in 31 2-ssec. Waitaki Elect will only have to begin cleanly to take beating in the Canterbury Stakes. Break Through made the pace and was under a good hold just in front of Double Step, with a length to Thunderina, Seven Nights and Goodray, and another length to Morven Lad at
the end of an easy 12 furlongs in 3min 30sec. They increased the pace to sprint their last half mile in Imin 4sec, and the final quarter in 32sec. Break Through could surprise in the Winter Handicap. Senator Frost and Marbryn worked easily throughout a quiet 12 furlongs in 3min 35sec. the last half mile in Imin 4 3-ssec, and the final quarter in 31 2-ssec. Both look improved by their first-day races, particularly Marbryn, which should be hard to beat in the Queen Mary Handicap. Major Bright led Doctor Scott throughout 12 furlongs in 3min 24 4-ssec, the last half mile in Imin 8 l-ssec, and the final quarter in 34 4-3 sec. Both should show to advantage on the second day of the meeting. Tryout was givsn sound pace work, finishing with a sprint over two furlongs in 32sec. He looks bright and should be a sound place chance in the Farewell Handicap. Beat Time was again restricted to several rounds at a solid pace. He went keenly all the way and looks ready to make a bold bid to gain his sixth win from seven race starts when he contests the Wildwood Handicap.
