MISSION IN DEBT
1171 Sought Aid Last Year
The resources of the Ang. llcan City Mission had been very seriously drained as a result of/ the economic squeeze, unemployment and sickness, said the missioner (Captain M. Hart) last even* ing. In the year to the- end of June 1171 persons had sought assistance, compared with 541 tn the previous year. Food and clothing were most in demand, and as a result there was a deficit of $4566 in the annual accounts.
Although the mission was not ther* to produce a profit in the usually accepted business sense of the word, it was felt that perhaps there were persons in. the community wh* would assist financially, or in kind, once the position was known, said Captain Hart. “The mission staff are thankful for the ready response of those who already help but will always be thankful for further assistance to enable them to carry on with their work, which is now done at 275 Hereford Street, the mission having moved its headquarters from Antigua Street,” he said.
