“Starving Children”
Sir, —ln a plethora of polysyllables, Helen M. Gardner seems to believe that I believe that New Zealand kids are really starving! However, my debate was directed towards the “best-fed, well-cared-for” superlative of Mr Bartram. If anything (and sorry, but I must generalise). New Zealand children are overfed. Most visitors are amazed by the numbers of fatties in the ranks of schoolchildren. Where else can you see children stuffing their faces with pies or fish-’n-chips on their way home from school, only an hour before they sit down to tea? Nevertheless, I am content to let Helen M. Gardner have her way.—Yours, etc., ANTI-HYPOCRITE. August 21, 1968.
