OVERSEAS AID

Gift Of Day’s Pay Proposed

(N Z Press Association}

AUCKLAND, August 20.

The Auckland Methodist Synod will recommend to the national Methodist conference that once a year, on Aldersgate Sunday, May 25, Metho-, dists give one day’s wages to overseas charities.

At the synod tonight, the Rev. B. M. Crystall proposed the donation, which would be in addition to present donations. He recommended that the total amount so collected should be used as directed by C.0.R.5.0. and the National Council of Churches. The synod was discussing a report on overseas aid submitted by its internal affairs committee.

In-the report, the committee reaffirmed the urgency of increasing international aid. and said that although the churches were giving aid through various organisations, the over-all impact of human need on the New Zealand conscience appeared to be very slight compared with the present and future plight of many people.
