Vegetable Marketing
A need for a central marketing organisation to assist New Zealand vegetable growers in market promotion and research was seen by Mr P. Blomfield, in a paper on agricultural export marketing, at the New Zealand Institute of Agricultural Science’s conference.
The marketing of processed crops such as peas and beans was largely in the hands of commercial marketing organisations, he said. Fresh vegetables, asparagus, strawberries, and onions were marketed partly by commercial exporters and partly by growers.
“There is probably a need for a central marketing organisation—to be called the Horticultural Export Development Corporation—to assist growers and others in market promotion and research,” Mr Blomfield said.
