Quality Of Wool In Sale Uneven
(New Zealand Press Association)
INVERCARGILL, August 19.
Although many good lines of crutchings were offered at the Invercargill winter wool sale today the value of other lines was reduced by mixed length and stains, said the report issued by the Invercargill woolbrokers in association with the Woolbuyers’ Association and the Wool Commission.
Other lines of crutchings were affected by seasonal conditions. They showed poor colour and, in several cases, mud.
There was a good selection of fleece wool, although odd lots contained vegetable matter and others showed some mud skirtings.
The offering of 12,328 bales was in 1445 lots and included 55 per cent crutchings, 25 per cent fleece wool, and the balance second-shear fleece and oddments. “The market can be quoted as slightly easier on coarse crossbred fleece wool, firm for second shear, 2j per cent easier for good crutchings, firm for average crutchings and easier for oddments com-
pared with recent northern sales,” the report says. “The Continent and the United States provided the main competition, with local mills less active than at prelous sales.”
The prompt date for the sale is September 6.
