Bata Cup Ski-ing To Womersley
The New Zealand Olympic ski-racer, C. Womersley, was back to top form for the Bata Cup contest at Mount Cheesman at the week-end. He brilliantly won the men’s slalom, and the fourth place he gained in the giant slalom was sufficient to give him the combined title.
M. Gardner, who also represented New Zealand at the 1968 Winter Olympics, could not quite reproduce the form which gave him second place to R. Palmer (Ruapehu) in the New Zealand championship last week. Although he won the giant slalom, he had to be content with fourth in the combined behind Womersley, M. Dennis and P. Hubrich. Miss J. Shiel comfortably won the women’s combined title and the slalom. A feature was the fine performance of the Otago racer, Miss A. Reid, who easily won the giant slalom. Results were MEH Slalom. —C.
