Lack-lustre Boxing

(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND. There was almost no New Zealand middleweight professional boxing champion when the Aucklanders, Fred Taupola and Billy Opetaia, last evening turned on the most lack-lustre display seen in an Auckland ring for many years. Taupola was awarded the championship by the referee (Mr G. R. Lyall) in the eighth round.

“I almost stopped it and declared it a no-contest,” said Mr Lyall after the bout. “I told them four times to try harder. I did the best 1 could to bring some action into the bout.”
