Economist With I.M.F.

Mr C. A. Yandle, an assistant lecturer in agricultural economics at Lincoln College, has been appointed an economist in the Western hemisphere department of the International Monetary Fund.

He will work in the North American division of the department and will be based in Washington, D.C. Mr Yandle, who is 27, was born in Christchurch and educated at the Linwood and Waimate High Schools. He has a bachelor’s degree in agricultural science from Lincoln and has written his thesis for a master’s degree. Mr Yandle said he was recruited by the IJf.F. in April last year. Later he hopes to be able to take leave from his job to study for his doctorate. He said that the most attractive aspect of the overseas post was the experience it would give him. The salary was higher than he could expect in New Zealand and opportunities for advancement were greater overseas, but in the' long term he hoped to return to New Zealand.
