Crown Lynn Sales In Aust. May Top $lm
(N.Z.P.A. Staff Correspondent) SYDNEY, August 18. The Auckland-based crockery manufacturer, Crown Lynn Potteries, Ltd, which made its first venture into the export field only six years ago expects to top the slm retail sales mark in Australia this year.
New Zealand has already in 1968 climbed to be the third biggest exporter of tableware to Australia, and two major contracts recently won will ensure increased export figures. The contracts were to supply cups, saucers and dinner plates to the Australian armed forces, and a large range of vitrified ware to the country’s hotel and catering trade.
Crown Lynn, a subsidiary of Consolidated Brick and Pipe Investments, Ltd, began in 1962 by setting up a retail store in a Melbourne suburb. By heavy advertising, clever promotion campaigns, and by cashing in on the inability of Australia’s traditional
crockery supplier, England, to provide a quick replacement service for breakages, Crown Lynn steadily boosted sales. Sold In 250 Shops
Now Crown Lynn crockery made in New Zealand is sold in 250 shops and stores in every Australian State. This year New Zealand edged Germany out of third place in the table of crockery exporters to Australia. Only England and Japan of the 20 countries exporting tableware to Australia sell more.
The company recently moved into a new warehouse and offices in Melbourne—five times bigger than the previous premises—and has twice moved its Sydney office in seach of more space.
