Wage Order Application

(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Aug. 18. It was up to each union to decide whether it should apply for the 5 per cent general wage order to cover full ruling rates, the president of the Federation of Labour (Mr T. E. Skinner) said today. Three Auckland firms have been affected by strikes in which .unions, particularly the Auckland Boilermakers’ Union, demand that all workers receive the increase. The order will come into effect tomorrow. “We have issued no directions to the unions and we are not considering any at this stage,” Mr Skinner said.
