Price Freeze

Sir, —Mr Skinner and his unions want the best of both worlds. When the Arbitration Court refused to grant a general wage order they threatened to tie up the country unless wages were increased. A price freeze then was no alternative. Now a wage increase has been granted they want other sections of the community to carry the cost of it. Mr Skinner’s plea for increased benefits for Social Security beneficiaries would have a less hollow ring if he told all unionists to stop attempting to tie up the country’s trade and allow the recent upward trend in our economy to continue. If unionists in some of our key industries continue their present tactics we will all suffer hardship, price freeze or no price freeze.—Yours, etc.. MEMORIES OF 1951. August 16, 1968.
