(N.Z.P.A -Reuter—Copyright I YOKOHAMA (Japan), Aug. 16. The world’s largest ship, a 312,000-ton tanker, was officially named Universe Ireland at Yokohama yesterday bv Mrs John Lynch, wife of the Prime Minister of Ireland. With a hull as high as a 10-storey building and a deck area large enough for 62 tennis courts, the vessel is 42 feet longer than the Eiffel Tower is high. The Universe Ireland, which cost about $NZ17,857,000 to build, will go into service later this year carrying crude oil between the Persian Gulf and Bantry Bay, Ireland. Fully laden, it will carry more than two million barrels of crude oil on each voyage. It is the first of six 312,000ton tankers to be built in Japan for an American shipping company. All six will be under long-term charter to the Gulf Oil Corporation.
