TROTTING BEAT TIME COULD BE AT SHORT ODDS TODAY

If the result follows recent betting trends, Beat Time should win at very’ cramped odds in the Ribbonwood Handicap at Addington Raceway today.

Miss A. E. White’s Adorian gelding will be trying for his fourth successive win and his fifth from six starts in this $l6OO event on the first day of the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club’s National meeting.

Beat Time is versatile, having won sprints, middle - distances and races up to two miles. Last Saturday Beat Time began his seven-year-old racing with an easy win over 13 furlongs at Oamaru. This time he will run two miles, a distance he managed successfully at Nelson in June. Betsy Morano, another good stayer, could be Beat Time’s strongest rival. She began another campaign with a narrow defeat in the Kurow Cup at Oamaru. Kurow Cup form will have

also proved valuable if Johnny Kawa, Lord Avon or Benmore, which finished in that order behind Betsy Morano last week, are in the finish. May Improve Seafield Countess, the Kurow Cup favourite which failed to run on—she weakened to ninth, should be improved ty that race. No-one would be surprised if she made amends.

There will be strong backing also for the consistent Marbryn. This Hunter-trained mare gained four wins and four placings from eight starts last season, and the last time she raced was a

This high-class entire is almost certain to be a firm favourite for the first leg of the T.A.B. concession double. Popular Choice Now that Royal Armour has dropped out of the field for close second over two miles at Hutt Park in May. If Good Chase begins his four-year-old racing with a win in the Louisson Handicap it will be a popular result the Christchurch Handicap, second leg of the main double, betting could take a much wider range. Although Single Cash is “The Press” pick it seems that the Aron-mot-Uteena bracket will be the popular choice. There will be a concession double for course patrons only on the Templeton Handicap and the Four-year-old Stakes.

Fine weather is forecast, so the track should be firm.
