DEATH IN HUT FIRE

Body Found In Wardrobe (N.f. Press Association) ROTORUA, August 18. A man suffocated in a smoke-filled hut at the Kaingaroa Logging Company’s camp at Murupara early today. He was Peter Te Moana, aged 45, married, a bushman, of Murupara.

A resident of the camp saw smoke coming from Mr Te Moana’s hut at about 3.45 am. With assistance, he smashed in the hut door, found Mr Te Moana in a wardrobe, and dragged him clear.

The police said that Mr Te Moana apparently got into the wardrobe while trying to find his way out of . the hut through the smoke. It is thought the fire began in Mr Te Moana’s bed.
