THE BROKEN HILL PROPRIETARY CO, LTD SYSTEMS ENGINEERS PROCESS CONTROL COMPUTER APPLICATIONS AND OPERATIONS RESEARCH VACANCIES EXIST in the Data Processing Departments at both the Port Kembla and Newcastle Steelworks for graduates who have experience in, and wish to work on, the application of process control computers and operations research techniques. The Company’s development in the plant computer applications field will cover process control type computer requirements within the Steelworks and also considerable activity in the application of operations research techniques to steelworks operations. Projects being selected are of considerable importance to the optimisation of Works operations. Systems Engineers in both fields will work In close conjunction with systems analysts and computer oriented production systems staff as well as with production and engineering officers. They will be responsible for the development of computer systems which direct or control or optimise a plant function or process. The vacancies include: 1. SENIOR SYSTEMS ENGINEERS: The successful applicants will be required to direct and co-ordin-ate the department’s projects. 2. SYSTEMS ENGINEERS: These positions cover the development and implementation requirements of the projects being handled. QUALIFICATIONS: University Degree in Engineering, Science or Mathematics with some experience relevant to the type of work. Immediate appointment to the senior positions would require at least five years’ experience, but suitable applicants with lesser experience will be considered for intermediate appointments which may lead to more senior positions. SALARY: Senior Systems Engineer: By negotiation on the basis of qualifications and experience. Systems Engineer: Minimum $4212 p.a., negotiated up to $5BOO on basis of experience. Salaries are revised annually. GENERAL: Appointment is subject to medical examination.
