CADETS RETURN
Visit To U.S.
Two Air Training Corps cadets returned to Christchurch this week after a month’s visit to the United States as guests of the United States Civil Air Patrol. They are Cadets B. A. Wilson, of Oamaru, and R. S Munro, of Dunedin. Mr Wilson said the hospitality had been outstanding They had stayed at Air Force bases in the five mid-west States visited, although at the beginning four days were spent at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York. The 165 cadets from 19 countries gathered there before splitting into smaller groups for their tours in various parts of the United States. Most of the time was spent visiting Air Force bases, aircraft manufacturing plants, museums and farming afeas, said Mr Wilson. He said that the Civil Air Patrol was different from the Air Training Corps in New Zealand in that it had no direct link with the AitForce. “They strictly emphasise the civil side of flying and do a lot of work in search and rescue operations.” The cadets will give talks on their experiences to their A.T.C. squadrons. .
