School Cadet Courses
More than 500 Army and Air Force school cadets from the South Island will attend training courses in the school holidays.
Four hundred Army school cadets will move into Burnham Military Camp today Two hundred and eighty cadets will be on the noncommissioned officers qualifying course and 120 on a similar course for senior n.c.o.s. The two courses will begin on August 18 and end on August 27. The Nelson Army area commander (Major I. p. Marshall) will be in charge of the cadets and the Regimental Sergeant-Major of the camp will be Warrant Officer J. R. Upton. In addition, eight cadet corps officers and 35 Regular Force n.c.o. instructors will help with the training. About 120 members of the Air Training Corps will be involved in the various train-
ing courses and competitions which will be held between August 18 and September 7. Three courses—officer commissioning, general service training, and cadet engineer-ing-will be held at the R.N.Z.A.F. base at Woodbourne. Also to be held there will be the Cadet Air League Trophy competition and the Cadet de Havilland Trophy competition for aeromodelling. The Southern Area A.T.C. modelling trials will be held at the base from August 24 to 26 and the aeromodelling competition for the
Air League Trophy will be held on August 27. An officer aviation studies course will be held at Ohakea and a cadet radio course at Wigram. From the 32 South Island cadets who take part in the aeromodelling trials and the Air League competition at Woodbourne a team of 12 will be chosen to represent the Southern Area in the national aeromodelling competition for the de Havilland Trophy which will be held at Woodbourne from August 28 to 31.
